I had a completely different outfit in mind for the "Go Red" day. This outfit is definitely not "me" since I'm not exactly the type of person who likes tshirts, jeans, or flats...yet I'm wearing all three here, since I still was not feeling 100% today. I am feeling much better than I did yesterday, however, so thanks so much for your well wishes.
Now, since today is meant to make women more aware of their heart-health, I will do a special post about what I do to stay healthy. Granted, this is coming from a size 12, 5'8" gal who could stand to lose a few lbs, but any of my family members and friends will tell you that I have had a longstanding commitment to health. Sooooo, here is what I do and what I eat to be a healthier woman rather than another statistic.
Healthy Habits:
*I have never EVER smoked, not even a puff
*Limit alcohol, but when I do drink, it's usually wine
*Run 2-3 miles on the treadmill, 4 times per week
*In good weather, I walk my dog 2 miles 3 times a week...In the fall/winter, I play volleyball every Sunday.
*Drink lots of water at work
*Keep track of my calories on Sparkpeople.com
*Take a daily multi-vitamin
*For something diffent, I'll try a yoga/pilates/abb workout on FitTV.com
What I eat:
Breakfast--Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Every Morning
Mid-morning snack--1 serving of pistachios or peanuts & a fruit (orange, banana, grapes)
Lunch--vegetable beef soup or steamed vegetables w/potatoes
Supper--Varies, but I've started cooking with more fresh ingrediants to keep us healthier--we go through a few tomatoes, an onion, and a green pepper, and a red pepper every week. We only eat about 4 meaty meals per week.
We almost always buy/eat lowfat dairy products to reduce saturated fat intake.
Night time snacks are my biggest downfall...I admit that these aren't always healthy. Some of the better choices I make, however, are light popcorn, a serving of nuts, and dark chocolate in moderation.
I don't eat healthy 100% of the time, but I find that when I eat really healthy at work, it really helps me for the rest of the day. Hope you find this interesting. Please feel free to leave comments about your own heart healthy habits and/or healthy recipies.

I lost 20 pounds last year on weight watchers and I eat mostly fresh vegetables, lean protein and low fat dairy. I do have trade offs for some of my "bad" foods, like chocolate, etc.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like structured exercise, but I often go to the mall at leat 3x a week after work and just walk around checking things out! LOL
I've been doing pilates and abs workouts (since those are the only things I can do right now) through fittv on demand and I LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteOne of your best outfits!!
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling even better today.
ReplyDeleteGreat list of healthy habits.
Avoid eating anything after dinner will definitely help me lose weight or at least I won't gain any at all. But I do get hungry at night, I just occupied myself with writing blog or serve internet.
